Celebrating 20 Years In Business

Let’s take a quick step back in time.

1994 was the first year of operation for Consumer Credentials, a consumer reporting agency that offered employers a suite of pre-employment screening solutions. After several years of growth, the credit reporting side of Consumer Credentials was sold to Equifax while the background screening portfolio remained.

Peopletrail Is Born

In 2005, Peopletrail was incorporated to adopt the remaining Consumer Credentials clients, providing criminal screening solutions with an aim to grow and evolve within the industry.

Peopletrail began operations in a one-room office with two employees, one of whom is current owner and CEO Wallace Davis. Contracts were signed, files were processed, and long hours were spent within those four walls.

As Peopletrail grew, its offerings expanded to credit reporting, occupational health screening, and more. With an above-and-beyond dedication to compliance, Peopletrail trademarked the slogan “Actionable Insight You Trust” and became among the first CRAs accredited by the National Association of Professional Background Screeners (now the PBSA).

Fortunately, Peopletrail found stability amidst the storms of the 2008 economic crisis. Current partner and COO Bryan Jensen joined the Peopletrail team to help create operational efficiencies, drive innovation, and bring a wealth of drug testing expertise to the organization. Creed Healey, now the VP of Sales and part owner, joined the team and catalyzed sales growth, helping to forge some of Peopletrail’s most valued partnerships, many of which remain intact today.

Over the years, Peopletrail witnessed the emergence of new competition, technologies, legislation, concerns, and efficiencies. Through it all, the expertise of the Peopletrail team continued to grow. New HR software platforms emerged, and client requests for integration and system customization began to top the list of needs. With each integration, Peopletrail’s capabilities multiplied as a tech-forward background screening partner.

Setback, Adaptation, and Growth

The COVID-19 pandemic presented the industry with several challenges but also offered many important lessons. We focused on helping clients improve turnover and prioritize safety and stability amidst a growing remote workforce. We also began to focus more on the candidate’s experience, working to ensure a simple, straightforward process for each individual. With technology and dedicated customer support, we further built our reputation as a friend to both our clients and their prospective hires.

As we increased our efforts on all these fronts while rigidly observing our strict duty to compliance, our slogan, “Actionable Insight You Trust,” began to seem incomplete. While insights are valuable, people are our priority– both client and candidate. For this reason, we updated our company motto and mission in 2022 to read, “Helping You Build a Dependable Workforce.” We feel this mission better reflects our commitment to our role as a true pre-employment screening partner.

The past two decades have been a purposeful journey for Peopletrail, one that continues forward. We express profound gratitude to the people within our organization, past and present, who have helped us shape our identity as a trusted global authority in the industry. We also sincerely thank our clients and partners for working and growing with us. Twenty years is a milestone in which we find great satisfaction, but we could not have done it without you. We wish everyone we work with success and will continue striving to improve ourselves.
